Enter an institution and/or place name from an author's address to search for records based on address.

Combine an Address search with an Author search to give precedence to records in which the author is associated with the address. However, be aware that older records may not have addresses associated with the record.

Join multiple words or phrases with the search operators AND, OR, NOT, and SAME. You may use wildcards to search for variants of words. The SAME operator is particularly useful in Addresses searches because it specifies that the terms joined by the operator be in the same address, and not just in the same field. For example, the search query IBM SAME NY will retrieve records with this address in the Address field:

IBM Res Corp, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 USA

Cornell Univ, Dept Mat Sci & Engn, Ithaca, NY 14853 USA
IBM Corp, Almaden Res Ctr, Div Res, San Jose, CA 95120 USA

Search Tip

To search on an address that contains a Boolean (AND, OR, NOT, and SAME), enclose the name in quotation marks. Example:Portland "OR"

Also, try spelling out the full address. Example: Oregon OR "OR" AND Portland

Address Abbreviations

Common address terms and many institution names are abbreviated in Web of Science. Refer to the following lists:

• Corporate and Institution Abbreviations

Common address abbreviations such as Univ, Med, and Phys must be entered as part of an address phrase. For example, Penn State Univ is acceptable, but Univ alone is not.
